What is a Float Frame?

A float frame is designed specifically for stretched canvas.

The canvas sits slightly inside the frame, creating a subtle shadow gap between the artwork and the frame edge. This allows the full face of the painting to remain visible while giving it a refined, gallery-quality finish.

The result is:

• No glass required

• Ready to hang

Float framing enhances the presence of the work without overpowering it.

Glazing:

• Melbourne metro orders (within one-hour radius) & standard artworks under 1m wide: framed with traditional glass. If you would prefer acrylic perspex, please contact me for a quote prior to ordering.

• Regional Victoria & Interstate orders & large artworks over 1m: framed with high-quality acrylic (Perspex), a lightweight and shatter-resistant alternative to glass, used to reduce weight and prevent breakage during shipping.

Framing protects the surface of the artwork from dust, moisture, and handling, while maintaining clarity and visual depth.

Weight of the framed artwork:

For works on paper under 70cm, the frame typically adds approximately 1–2kg to the overall weight. Larger works are framed with Perspex rather than glass to help keep the weight manageable.

Framed Dimensions:

The final framed size will depend on the dimensions of the artwork and the framing style selected.

• For artworks with at least one side under 50cm, framing typically adds approximately 3.5–5.5cm to each side, including the mat and frame.

• For artworks with all sides over 50cm, framing typically adds approximately 5.5–7.5cm to each side, including the mat and frame.
