Reflecting my ongoing pull between structure and spontaneity, this piece balances order and rhythm with intuitive marks. I created a framework in Paynes grey to hold the space, then worked within it using colour and pattern, shifting between playfulness and restraint, allowing contrast, variation, and personality to sit alongside each other.
Details
Medium: Fineliner, gel pen, marker, and acrylic paint on Wright & Co. 12 oz poly-cotton stretched canvas. Finished with an acid-free, matt varnish for long-term protection.
Pearlescent Detail: The final image offers a close-up of the piece including pearlescent white applied to certain parts of the artwork, a colour that shifts subtly with the light and is difficult to capture accurately in photographs.
Size: 50.8 × 50.8 cm (depth: 3.5 cm)
