In A Roundabout Way
Original artwork.
When I created In a Roundabout Way, I was reflecting on the experience of reaching a destination through an unexpected and sometimes uncomfortable series of events. By using contrasting sections of colour, pattern, doodled marks and more structured elements, I wanted to capture the varied nature of that journey.
During the journey of creating the artwork, the black-and-white geometric section, together with the colours contained within the circle, evoked for me the familiar old television test pattern. This made me think about moments of interruption, recalibration and searching for a signal. Together, these elements reflected for me how a journey may not always be predictable or straightforward, but can still lead us where we need to go.
